The Black Knight is a combination warrior and black mage, and as such is a master at inflicting damage. He is able to wield most weapons and wear most armor and also wield basic elemental magic to inflict damage on his enemies.
You must be level 30 and complete the Dark Knight Flag Quest before you can switch to this job.

The basics to know for DRK Dark knight is one of the most damaging jobs in the game. They use their heavy melee along with some nice black magic. As a DRK you must be aware that your heavy damage comes at a small price. DRK's don't have a whole lot of defense; decent but not great. You will draw a good bit of hate with your damage at times, so don't dish out more than your tank can handle. You are made for melee primary and mage secondary; don't rely on your magic more than your melee. And finally you are not made for tanking although at lower levels you may be asked to if nothing else is available.
Dark Knight Subjobs If you want to jump on the bandwagon, this is how you will manage your subjob: Levels 1-29: WAR is your best choice. Some choose THF for the added DEX, but it really doesn't give you that much more. Levels 30-49: WAR or THF. WAR get Berserk and THF get Sneak Attack. Your call. Levels 50-59: WAR for Berserk and Double Attack. Levels 60+: THF for Sneak Attack and Trick Attack OR WAR still works great usually until level 66 when you get the awesome Weapon Skills.
WAR and THF are the most common subs for DRK in an XP party. Some may choose SAM as well, but I don't really see the point until level 60 when you can Meditate.
SUBJOBS TO AVOID AT ALL COSTS Please, please do not sub a mage-type job for an XP party. You are just gimping yourself and your party of faster XP. This includes RDM, BLM, WHM, BRD, SMN, PLD.
The only jobs that should be subbed in my opinion are THF, WAR, and SAM. All other subjobs strip you of the better Job Abilities you could be getting from these.
"OMG WTF?!! I don't wanna be like everyone else and sub those!!111 There is a reason for cookie cutter subjobs. They work the best and are the most effiecient in getting fast XP.
Dark Knight Job Abilities Arcane Circle: Gives resistance against Arcana.
Last Resort: Increases damage and decreases defense. Lasts a mere 30 seconds.
Weapon Bash: Stuns the enemy temporarily. Can only be used if using a two-handed weapon.
Souleater: Takes away your HP to add to your damage.
Dark Knight Races I'll start out this section by saying there is no wrong race to pick for being a Dark Knight. So don't worry if you're a Tarutaru wanting to be a DRK. Any well-equipped race can keep up in damage to another race. This does not go for just DRK. Any race can be good at any job. That's why SE made Astral Rings for example. Granted that it might be more expensive to be a Galka SMN or a Taru PLD, but it can still be done and there is no wrong race.
Soloing your DRK DRK have a pretty nice edge when soloing. You do great damage to make up for the delay of your weapon. Usually the mob gets in 2 hits for your 1 hit. You have many ways of regaining the edge in a battle if it looks grim. Blood Weapon + Souleater is a great combo when soloing if you get in trouble. Souleater takes the HP away to deal extra damage while Blood Weapon gives it right back to you. You also get Bind and Sleep, which bodes useful for a quick getaway.
DRK Two Hour: Blood Weapon Pretty much only useful for soloing. You could help out the party in certain emergency situations by using Souleater and Blood Weapon simultaneously. But without that combo, I have found it to be pretty useless in an XP party.
DRK's in Parties DO NOT do more damage than your tank can handle. Too much damage makes it hard for your tank to keep hate. A Paladin is a Dark Knight's best friend. This duo can benefit a party greatly. A good PLD can keep hate from the DRK's massive damage. If you don't have a PLD or a tank that can keep hate very well, you'll find it hard to use your abilities without accruing hate. You definitely need to keep in mind that you should NEVER stack SOULEATER, BERSERK, AND LAST RESORT. This will cause massive hate towards you and you will more than likely die. If the mob goes after a mage, just throw a Stun at the mob. It usually allows the tank to get hate back without damaging the mages too much.
In the case of a NIN tank, you will find it a completely different playing style than with a PLD tank. You have to calm yourself down a little. You can't unleash as you normally would with a PLD tank. I'm not saying NIN tanks are bad. As a matter of fact, I think they're awesome. The mages use little to no MP. Just be careful when having a NIN tank in your party and don't overdo it too much, unless he/she can keep hate.
Spells Worth Getting Bio - Useful at lower levels. Great for raising Dark Magic Skill.
Drain - Incredibly useful. Saves the healer's MP, heals you, and damages the mob all at the same time. Usually equivalent to a melee hit, depending on the mob's resistance and your Dark Magic Skill and INT.
Aspir - Incredibly useful. Gets your MP back so you don't have to rest in between battles. Slows downtime and conserves your TP.
Poison - Very useful. Excellent for pulling. Doesn't do a lot of damage at all, but it's quick cast time. Superb pulling spell and excellent to level up your Enfeebling skills.
Sleep - Only useful if you have high Enfeebling skills. In the case you have an emergency and need to zone, Sleep will help out tremendously (granted your Enfeebling skills are up to par). Also useful for certain BCNM.
Bind - Very useful. Pretty much same reason as Sleep. Very cheap too, so just go ahead and buy it.
Stun - Incredibly useful. Especially since DRK's get it before BLM's. It can prevent mobs from doing naughty things. Also highly useful for 40 BCNM.
Absorb spells - These are the DRK signature spells. They all help your party and are excellent to have. The only one I haven't found useful is Absorb-CHR (if anyone brings about a good use for this, let me know and I'll add it). They all are fairly cheap, except Absorb-DEX. This runs about 250k-300k gil. You should plan on getting this spell though, especially if you're Elvaan. It will help you a good deal.
Absorb-CHR - Haven't found a use for it yet, unless you were fighting Bard or Beastmaster mobs.
Absorb-MND - Helps your mages. They can stick enfeebles on the mob much easier without getting resisted as much. Also lowers its magic defense.
Absorb-INT - Good for your BLM's. Allows the spells to do more damage and also increases your Dark Magic power.
Absorb-AGI - Very useful and helps your melee. Lowers its AGI and makes it easier for the melee to hit the mob.
Absorb-DEX - Useful if you seem to miss a lot (which most DRK do). Also increases your chance of a critical hit and decreases the mob's hitrate.
Absorb-STR - Very nice. If you don't sub WAR (and even if you do), this is like having another Berserk or Last Resort.
Absorb-VIT - Helps out your melee. Lowers its Defense and adds to yours. Melee does more damage.
Elemental spells - I left these out of the important spells because I haven't really found them that useful. They don't do as much damage as a melee hit, so why waste time casting these when you could be doing more damage? Of course you can MB, but I haven't found it does much damage either. The only worth I've found these to be is raising elemental magic skill.
DRK Equipment Scythe vs. Great Sword: Scythe or Great Sword is ideal for a Dark Knight. While a DRK has an A+ rating using Scythes and an A- rating using Great Swords, you won't notice any difference. Definitely keep both skills capped. You can do better skillchains depending on who you party with and if you plan on getting to level 66+, it is ignorant to not use a Greatsword. Scythes are usually cheaper than Great Swords at lower levels, but if you talk to Gumbah again after killing the first 100 mobs, then kill 100 more mobs, you will get a nice Great Sword that has lvl 5 requirement with 20 DMG and +8 to attack only usable by DRK's.
Armor: Keep your armor fairly updated. You can get by every now and then by skipping an armor update. Usually you can sacrifice armor with higher defense for armor that benefits your stats. I personally am a perfectionist and HAVE to have all +1 gear if it's within my affordability, but that's just me.
DRK Stats Dark Knights only need to focus on 3 main stats: STR, DEX, and INT. You don't need to worry about INT that much though because you won't be relying on your magic as much as your melee. As far as STR and DEX go, it depends on your race. If your race is naturally low in the STR field, invest in +STR and +Attack items. Meat Mithkabobs are excellent to use (even though they are food and not equipment). If your race is naturally low in DEX, invest in some +DEX and +Accuracy items. If your race is pretty much balanced in STR and DEX, invest in both.
Stats like AGI, CHR, and MND are not very important and you should not even worry about adding to these.
NOTE: The bolded statement above is mainly pre-33. Once you get post-33, it'd be wise to start investing in +Accuracy and +Attack/+STR items.
1 Attack = 2 STR 1 Accuracy = 2 DEX (This is not official, but rumored. We have no way of checking this as a clear fact.)
This is how I view the importance of stats: Accuracy > Attack > DEX > STR
Unlocking the Job Go to Bastok Mines and talk to Gumbah. He's in one of the houses on the second floor. Talk to him until you get the cutscene. He tells you to go to Palborough Mines and talk to a Galka named Zeid. Go to Palborough Mines and take the elevator up to level 3 of the mines. Get on the boat to get the cutscene with Zeid. Zeid then gives you a very crappy sword (3 dmg, 666 delay) and tells you to satisfy the sword's hunger or something. All you have to do now is kill 100 enemies with that sword. Go to North or South Gustaberg and just kill 100 of the easy mobs out there. You have to keep count because the game doesn't keep count for you. When you've killed 100 mobs, go to Beadeaux in the southeast corner of Pashhow Marshlands to activate another cutscene with Zeid. Congratulations, you can now become a Dark Knight! Thanks CloakedStranger
NOTE: You can talk to Gumbah again and kill 100 more mobs with the same sword, then trade it to the pond in Gusgen Mines to get a great sword called Deathbringer.
Closing Being a Dark Knight is an exciting experience. Who doesn't like being able to deal that much damage? Just be careful of TOO MUCH damage. Have fun with it!

The damage is less than the bone scythe and the delay is slightly faster. i think its the same math if you look at damage over time. This scythe currently goes for 120K. and the bone scythe +1 goes for 20K. but if u got the money and want a badass looking scythe 3 levels faster, you can do so as you wish.)
Vassago's Scythe: Level 58 Dmg: 84 Dly: 528 Accuracy: 5 HP: -5%
Darksteel Scythe: Level 65 Dmg: 89 Dly: 528 (Its worth to ditch the Vassago's Scythe now because Darksteel does more damage. This wont hurt Elvaans too much but other race doesnt have the STR like Elvaans so they should stay away from this. Me and another DRK friend used this as a Hume and the difference in Damage and hit rate is hard to notice.)

QUEST 1: Dark Legacy Reward: Raven Scythe Level 43: Dmg 68, Delay 528, STR+2, INT+2, RARE/EX
Conditions to Activate Quest: Must be at least a level 40 Dark Knight
Quest Starter NPC: Raibaht, A Galka in Cid's Lab over in Bastok Metalworks.
Recommended Party: 2 Level 60's, 1 Tank, 1 Whm or Rdm, and You. If not possible, a Party of 50+ SHOULD be able to take out the Mob.
Enter Metal works and take one of the Elevators up to Cid's Lab, there you will find a Galka Named Raibaht who will speak of wanting to reintroduce Darksteel Smithing Techniques. He States that he needs a Book that he lent to Windurst because Bastok no longer uses these Smithing Techniques. However, Cid is interested in the book, and he wants you to get it back. Finish the Cutscene, then go and Talk to Mighty Fist. After that...it's time to head off to Windurst.
Once in Glorious, ( And confusing for some) Windurst, head over to Windurst Waters and head to the Optistery. Note that Windurst Waters consists of Two Maps. The best way to recognize where you are is that you want to be in the map with the Cooking guild. You can recognize the Optistery because it has a big Telescope on top of the building and is near the exit for West Sarutabaruta. Once there, enter and find Cochal-Monchal. He speaks about the book having been there, but there was a problem dealing with it and now it is gone due to said issue.
Go to the Auction house and buy a Yagudo Cherry. They are fairly cheap as I recall. Then head out with your party and journey through Giddeus to H-14. You will find a ??? Spot there. Once you are there, clear the area to avoid any possible Links. Rest and buff up, and then when everyone is ready, Trade the Cherry to the ??? mark.
Vaa Huja THe Erudite will Spawn. A Fairly Strong Notorious Monster Yagudo. Slaughter him. Once he falls to the ground as a lifeless corpse, Check the same ??? Mark once more. You will attain the Book. Once you have the Book, return to Bastok Metalworks and talk to Raibaht. You will complete Dark Knight Artifact 1 and get your Raven Scythe.
(Personal notes: When I did this at level 40, I had an alliance of Ranges from 45 to 56 and Above. Pretty much almost the entire LS came out to help with me this. The mob despite all this, is indeed quite strong as I remember it, so make sure you come prepared. )

QUEST 2: DARK PUPPET Reward: Chaos Sollerets: Level 52, DEF 10, HP+15, MND+5, Enhances "Arcane Circle" Effect. (This makes Arcane Circle Last Much Longer)
Conditions to Activate Quest: Must have completed Drk AF 1, and must be level 50+
Quest Starter NPC: Cid In Bastok Metalworks ( Cids Lab )
Recommended Party: 6 Members of 55+, Balanced Pt, or a Tank that is Above 60 and a 50+ Healer and more then 1 Drk. Paladin is Vital for this.
Zeid has sent a Letter to Cid concerning recent issues with a Weapon gone amock in Ordelle's Caves. You are to journey there and assist Zeid in whatever way you can.
Purchase or Craft a Darksteel Ingot. I myself purchased this, it cost 10k on Ifrit and I refused the Other Drk's wanting to help pay for it. I had the cash to spare so I just went ahead and purchased it for all of us, and told them not to worry about the money. Note that you only need 1 Darksteel ingot. So if you have more then 1 Dark Knight with you, ( like I did ) you only need to trade it once. All will end up fighting the mob.
Head to Ordelles Caves and enter. You will get a Cutscene. Journey over to H-12 on this level (Current Map) and fall down the hole. This will place you on H-12 on another portion of the map. Third Floor I believe. Not certain. You will be right next to the ??? you need. Buff up, eleminate any possible link threats or aggro, and then get ready.
Trade the Darksteel Ingot to the ??? there and Gerwitz's Axe will spawn. Immeaditley hit Arcane Circle to help the pt out, and proceed to kill it. Once it dies the mob will drop Gerwitz's Axe. Be wary of these mobs, they are fairly strong. While I have heard this one uses Mighty Strikes, we cut it down so fast we never got a chance to witness it. Once the Axe Drops, have the Darksteel Ingot user lot on it and attain it.
After this, Head east up into the tunnel leading up to the 2nd Map of the zone. Head on over to H-8 and clear out any mobs that may pose a threat. Rest, and buff up and then have the Dark Knight with Gerwitz's Axe trade it to the ??? mark there. Gerwitz's Sword will now spawn. Once again, use Arcane Circle. Proceed to kill this mob. Once this dies, it will drop Gerwitz's Sword. Once again, let the Darksteel ingot user lot on it, and he will attain it for the next trade.
Over at H-10 on this very same map, is the final ??? mark that you need to find. Once again, clear out any mobs that may pose a threat during the fight, also attempting to gain as much TP as possible for Skillchaining this creature. Once everyone is buffed, rested, and ready, trade Gerwitz's Sword to the ??? and Gerwitz's Soul will Spawn. This is a Powerful Ghost NM, and it is VITAL that the Paladin Tank use Holy Circle and tank it as best as possible. Unless you have 60+ members in your pt, this ghost is NOT a pushover by any means.
Once the Mob dies, You are done. Exit out to La Theine Plateau on this very same map. The Exit you are looking for is G-10. You will recognize you are in the right area if you see Napalms. I am not sure if they are weather related to be there or not, but they were there when I exited.
Once you are done, Congrats! You will get a cutscene and then attain your Chaos Sollerets!

QUEST 3: Blade of Evil
Quest Reward: Chaos Burgeonet, DEF: 23, Hp+12, STR +4, Dark Magic Skill +5, Enhances "Soul Eater" Effect.
Recommended Party: Either a Level 75 Ninja Tank, 70+ Blm And Whm or Rdm, or a Party that is at least 12 members of 60+
Quest Starter NPC: Quest continues from AF2, Zone into Beadeaux to get Cut Scene. ( This is Vital )
Conditions to Receive Quest: Must have completed Drk AF2, and must be a level 50+ Dark Knight.
Zone to Beadeaux after Dark Knight AF2 to receive a Cutscene where you talk To Zeid. He speaks about Gerwitz's weapon running amock, and that you need to lure it out somehow and slay it.
Once in Beadeaux you will receive the Cutscene. After that, assuming you have a strong party with you, head deep into Beadeaux and find and slay any Topaz Quadavs that you encounter. ( Note that some of these mobs in this area are EP to level 70+ Characters, so when I say come loaded for bear, I frigging mean it. ) The item you are looking for is a Vial of Quadav Mage's Blood. This item is EX, so only one character may attain it. It would be quite wise to have the Dark get this item.
Once you have the blood, head over to Delkfutt's tower. Head up to the 7th Floor and take the Teleport at J-6 on the 7th Floor back down to the 6th. The isolated room that you need to be in is on the Northeast part of the Map of the 6th Floor, at I-6. Middle Delkffutt's Tower.
Now then, you only need 1 of the blood to trade in, for all of the Dark's in the party/Alliance to complete this quest. You will find a ??? near the teleport. Once everyone is buffed up and ready, have the Drk trade it in to the ??? spot and then 3 Nm will appears. Two NM are Scythe Victims, which are Undead Mages, and the final and most lethal NM is Gerwitz's Scythe, a High Level Notorious Mob Weapon. To avoid aggro for the Drk trading in the item, I believe you can have sneak up and the mobs will not aggro you if trading the item under the influence of this buff. If such is not the case, make sure the healers of the party have the Dark that is trading in the item targeted and ready to be mass healed, as the mobs will come out whailing on them. Have the tank provoke, and go about the process of killing them.
Now, how I ended up doing this. We had a level 75 Ninja in the Alliance, 6 other Drk's, a Blm, a Bard, and a Rdm. All of the Darks were instructed to sit atop the Teleport Platform while the others fought. We were not to move, not to fight. The reasoning behind this was Valid. The more people that hit the Skeletons, the faster they can spam their Drain HP attack and if more people are close by, the more HP it will regain from said attack. As soon as the Mobs spawned they were voked off of the Drk that traded the item, and the battle Began. The Ninja Blinktanked and everyone concentrated on one mob at a time. The Drk's Responsibilites were to Spam Stun if we even noticed a Scythe Victim Casting a spell. The same goes for the Weapon. This allowed the Ninja and the others to take down the Mobs relativley little difficulty considering their power level range. Note however, these mobs were still dangerous as hell. Even with a level 75 Ninja and the others being 60+, it still took them quite a bit of time to take these mobs down. They did, however, do it successfully.
Now then, once the battle is over, rest up if need be, and take the teleport out of the room. You will receive a cutscene that will give you the helm. A Note here. If your inventory is full and the game says you cannot have this item, and drops it from your possible inventory, Do not panic. Simply take the teleport to the isolated Room, then take it out again. You will once again receive the Cutscene and the Helm. Assuming you have at least cleared 1 spot from your inventory to allow the helm, you will receive it and all will be well. :)
Addendum on this quest: All Dark Knights must activate the Cut scene in Beadeaux to be able to complete this quest. Please make sure you do this. The blood only needs to be traded once if you are in the same Pt/Alliance when attempting to slaughter the NM's. I would suggest not failing in this, as I am not certain as to whether or not another vial of Quadav blood will be required to respawn the mobs should you fail in this task.

QUEST 4: Borghertz's Shadowy Hands
Quest Reward: Chaos Gauntlets: DEF: 12, HP+11 Dex +3 Dark Resistance +10, Enhances "Weapon Bash" Effect.
Quest Starter NPC: Guslam in Upper Jeuno, NPC Galka in the Armor Shop
Recommended Party: 4 Members of at least 60+ To assist in the Farming of the Coffer Key that you need to Drop. Though I would prefer more. The Stronger the help, and the more of it you have, the faster you will get the key. ( Not the hunt for the Chest. Two different things that. ) Then at least 6 Members of 55+. Or preferably 2-3 players in the 60's range, for the NM fight in Castle Zvahl Bailey's.
Conditions to Receive Quest: Must have Completed Dark Knight Artifact 1, and Must be level 50+ Dark Knight.
Head over to Guslam in Upper Jueno and speak with him. He will begin to talk about Borghertz's legendary craftsmanship. After this you will receive a Quest. For Dark Knight's, gather an alliance and head deep into Eldieme Necropolis. You will only need Sneak here I believe to get by all the mobs. Drop into the lower levels of the Necropolis through one of the rooms with piles of skulls and bones in the squares. The room you need to drop down into preferably is the one close to the " Hume Bones " spot. Once there, sneak through and head to the tunnel ahead. This will be your camp. You will recognize this spot as the 2nd Map for Eldieme Necropolis. The Position of the spot you drop down to is L-10. The "Hume Bones" will be just ahead of you.
The mobs you are looking for to kill that drop the key are as follows: Tomb Mages, Tomb Warriors, or Utukku and I believe Spriggans. Watch out for Spriggans though. From what I understand the drop rate for the key is highest on them, but they have a nasty attack called Dimensional Death which I HAVE seen one shot more then one player. Be wary.
Once the Eldieme Necropolis Coffer Key drops, head out and prepare for your coffer hunt. Make sure that you have Dark Knight selected as your main job for this hunt, as if you do not, popping open the coffer may not get you your precious gauntlets, wasting your time and everyone else who assisted you. You can look up Mystery Tour for Coffer locations on map if need be, though I will list them here as well. You should only need Silent Oils for this journey. Three stacks should be sufficient. Be careful, and watch your sneak at all times. If it starts to drop, try to hit an area where you can drop it and reapply safely. A good tip is to download the maps through Mystery tour and then go in and mark all coffer locations with Markers BEFORE you go activley hunting for the coffer. You can purchase a map of Eldieme Necroplis in Upper Jeuno, from a Tarutaru NPC in a store near the Batallia Downs Zone Entrance.
Now then, Coffer Locations:
1st Map/1st Floor:
E-8 G-6 G-7 F-8
2nd Map/2nd Floor:
L-12 M-11 M-10 L-9 E-6 (Note on E-6. To reach this coffer you need to head up through Ranguemont Pass, through Beaucidine Glacier, and back into Battalia Downs. The entrance into Eldieme Necropolis for this portion is only enterable through this manner. )
Once you have found a Coffer, pop it open as Dark Knight and you will receive a Key Item, Pair of Old Gauntlets. Return to Guslam and speak with him. He will state that those gauntlets were most assuredly made by Borghertz, but there is no way he knows how to repair them in their current state.
Head down to the Tenshodo Branch in Lower Jeuno and enter. Find and talk to a Mithra named Yin Pocanakhu. Speak with her and Pay her Demand in Gil, Don't worry, when I did it, it was like 1,000 Gil. A drop in the pan considering the costs of some our gear that we need ><
Now, go the duty Free Shop in port Jeuno, and near the door there you will find a dusty old Box marked by a ?. Click on this and you will get a cutscene.
Now comes the fun part.
Borghertz wants Shadow Flames to reforge the Gauntlets to their former state of glory. The only place to get this rare item is in Castle Zvahl Baileys, over in Xarcabard Region. Gather up a Party that will be adequate to do this, and make sure everyone has the Teleport-Zvahl Crystal. Once that is confirmed, teleport over.
Note: If you do not have this crystal, You can journey through Ranguemont Pass, and Beaucidine Glacier to get to Castle Zvahl. I would recommend picking up the teleport Crystal shard while you are in the vicinity of the area.
Head up to Castle Zvahl. I would recommend using Both Sneak/Invis if you can. Be nice and spare your Whm and Rdm some headaches by bringing a stack of Silent Oils and Prism Powders. They will appreciate you for it trust me. Use these items to journey through Xarcabard and up to Castle Zvahl. The Undead Aggro by Sound+low Hp and the Large Flying Eyes aggro by sight. Demons which are close to the entrance of Castle Zvahl, aggro by sight. I am not certain on sound. Try and make this as stress free as possible on everyone. Don't aggro anything.
Once in Castle Zvahl Baileys, Rest up and then sneak up and invis and head down the middle of the lanes. Stick to the middle AT ALL TIMES. If something drops at an inopprutune time and you are at the wrong spot instead of the middle, you could possibly aggro almost the entire castle on you and get everyone slaughtered. The possibilty for Links here are VERY severe. Just keep heading straight, being both Sneaked and Invised, and stay in the middle of the path at all times. You should eventually reach a gate with 2 torches on either Side. 2 demons, 1 eye, and 1 eye behind the gate Lurk here. Kill the 2 Demons and 1 Eye, and be wary of the Eye behind the gate. If it sees someone that it can aggro, IT WILL AGGRO. And it WILL Come after you. I had some people disbelieve me when this thing aggroed. They turned back and laughed at me.
They stopped laughing after it took the long way around and brought 6 of it's friends with it. All of us almost got slaughtered. This place is NOT some place to joke around unless you are level 70+. It is LETHAL. So make sure everyone listens, and make sure everyone trusts everyone. It will go a long way.
Once the area is clear, have the person who needs the quest investigate one of the torches. A NM called Dark Spark will appear. It is a Bomb and it is Arcana, so immeaditley activate Arcane Circle to give your a party an Edge, and at all times, WATCH OUT FOR SELF DESTRUCT. You MUST, I repeat, MUST be watchful for this ability and nullify it the second it starts to use it. This is EXTREMLEY Important. This ability CAN, and WILL Drop an entire party in a heartbeat.
Once Dark Spark is dead, make sure you click on and use the SAME TORCH you investigated to spawn Dark Spark. You will receive the Key Item: Shadow Flames
Return to Jeuno and Head to port Jeuno. Once there, talk to the Old Box outside of Jeuno Duty Free, you will get a cutscene and attain your Chaos Gauntlets. Please Make sure at all times that you have an inventory spot open. Trust me, losing something you worked so hard for due to no available space is beyond frustrating.
Congratulations on your Chaos Gauntlets!!!

QUEST 5: No quest Given, Just find a coffer key and pop open a treasure coffer.
Reward: Chaos Flanchard: DEF: 31, HP +15, INT +3, Evasion+5, Parrying skill +10
Starting Conditions: To have completed Borghertz's Shadowy hands and must be at least Level 50+ Dark Knight
Details: No Quest involved. Just get together a party, hunt mobs until you get the coffer key, pop coffer. Boom, AF pants.
Recommended Party: At least 6 Members of Level 60+. Farming the Key is a headache and can take some very serious amount of time. Plan a night with your LS for this.
Details on How to attain Coffer Key:
Gather up your party/Alliance and head on over to Davoi. Enter the Monastic Cavern and invis up. I don't believe anything in here aggros by sound. Head out to the Zone exit that goes back up into Davoi over by the Old Cathedral. Re-Invis. Head up and out of the tunnel and across the bridge until you come to a nice relativley cozy safe spot ( Considering the Equivalent of Freddy Kruger lives in that old Cathedral, any place in here I wouldn't even dare consider safe ) and buff up and make this your camp. You will note this spot by the Position of I-8. This is, relativley speaking, a safe camp.
The Mobs you are after are Orcish Dragoons, Farkillers, Dreadnoughts and Above. The item you are looking for is called a Davoi Coffer Key. Put simply, pull one of these at a time by a reliable puller, and slaughter them until your key drops. It would be reasonable to plan only for 1 key a night drop, as sometimes getting a single key to drop can literally take over 5 hours sometimes.
If the puller gets aggro, they can zone through the cavern you came up through from Monastic Cavern.
Once you attain your key, plan a day to go through Monastic Cavern hunting for your coffer. Since most of the mobs aggro only by sight I believe, you can Sub Ninja and Macro Tonko: Ichi for the INVIS it gives. A stack of 99 costs roughly 8k on Ifrit, and it goes a helluva longer way then 12 prism powders, which you pay 5k or more for on Ifrit. Definitley a value. Plus the Tools will last you over an hour or two of hunting, so definitley worth the purchase.
I will list the coffer positions in Monastic Caverns below. If you want to be 100% sure of coffer locations, hit up Mysterytour once again and download the maps that detail the coffer locations. Again I recommend staying at the entrance and marking the coffer spots via markers, that way you can just /map real quick and check where you are heading for a coffer spot. Once you spot a coffer, wait until the mobs turn your back on you. Drop invis, trade the key REAL DAMN Quick, get your AF, and get the hell out of dodge. Again I recommend having at least ONE inventory spot free. Trust me...coffer key hunts are a real pain in the arse. You DON'T want to spend all this time, find your coffer, pop it open, then lose your AF because your inventory was full.
Once the coffer is popped, if you didn't get aggro, Reinvis and get the heck out of Davoi. Congratulations on your Chaos Flanchard!
[Coffer Locations] [Monastic Cavern]
I-7 H-7 ( Two possible coffer spawn points here, one in the small dead end tunnel, one at the curve of the tunnel leading to the right. ) H-8 (Three possible Coffer spawn points here) G-8 (Again, 3 possible spawn points. Two in the tunnel to the far left, one in the tunnel in the middle of the map roughly) H-9

Quest 6: No Quest, Just find a Coffer key. Pop open a treasure coffer.
Reward: Chaos Cuirass: DEF: 46 HP+20, VIT+3, Attack+5, Enfeebling Magic skill +5
Starting Conditions: Must have Completed Borghertz's Shadowy Hands and be at least level 50+ Dark Knight.
Recommended Party: A Tank of at least 65+, preferably a Paladin, and the rest of the Party 60+. You MUST have a healer for this. This is an absolute MUST.
Details: Welcome to the end all, be all ABSOLUTE HELL of Dark Knight AF. Welcome to Castle Oztroja. If you are from Windurst like I am, you already have a very deep seated hatred for the Yagudo. If you aren't from Windurst, you will soon learn to loathe and hate these creatures beyond anything you can imagine. But a warning. Prepare to Reserve a new spot in your Black Heart for a new festering hatred that will never end. A New enemy maybe some of you never expected to encounter during your quest for the Chaos Cuirass.
The FFXI Job Called THIEF.
The ordeal to attain the key is Simple. Grab your party and head up to the Third Floor of Castle Oztroja. Have someone who either does not aggro the mobs or is a Thf, touch the Torch near the stairs leading up to the Third Floor. This will open a Brass door. Have everyone head through this door. This is your camp. No mobs spawn here and it is very safe. This area is for LB3 if some of you need a reference as to what I am talking about it. Interestingly enough, one of the coffers spawn here behind the statue.
Have Everyone buff Up and use food and prepare. Label someone as a Door man to open the door for the puller. The mobs you are looking for are as follows:Yagudo Flagellants, Yagudo Prelates, Yagudo Assasins, and Yagudo Conducters.
I should note, the absolute most DANGEROUS and Lethal of these mobs is the Yagudo Prelates. These Yagudo CAN and WILL Slaughter a very unprepared Party. Be ready to silence these, as they LOVE to spam AOE spells and most dangerously, their AOE whirlwind Kick. These two style of attacks nearly dropped our 60+ Alliance MORE THEN ONCE. So be VERY careful, and be extremley Trigger happy with the Stun/Weapon Bash and Silence Skills. ANd please, for the love of Altana, make sure your tank stays in the high hp. It is vital against these.
Against the others, they are mostly Cake. Asides from Yagudo Prelates, Yagudo Assasins prove the most dangerous Threat. Be prepared to use Poisonga against these mobs as it will immeaditley get rid of all of their shadows and make the killing of it alot less painful.
The method for hunting is simple. Have the doorman open the door. Puller ventures out, grabs a mob. Doorman opens the door and Puller comes back into the room. Everyone engages and slaughters the hapless Yagudo. Rinse and repeat until you get your coffer key.
So now you have your coffer key. Congrats! Sooo...now what?
Well....put simply, you hunt for your coffer. There are several things I need to mention here.
1: Sub Ninja for Tonko: Ichi. Buy at LEAST three stacks of the tools to use this Ninja Magic. Do not worry when it starts to fade, just hit your macro and it will cast it again without disrupting the Invis at all. You will be fine.
2: On the second Floor there is a small pool filled with Yagudo Parasites. These Aggro By Sound. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT go near this pool. It WILL Get you killed. Stick to the far walls of the room as you hunt for coffer and avoid this pool AT ALL COSTS. I should note however, that one of the coffers DO spawn here. So if you feel like living it up dangerously, bring a stack of silent oils to try and get up to the coffer and pop it. Good luck on that.
3: Go to Mystery tour and once again Pre Mark the coffer spots. Trust me in this you will need it.
4: Now begins the Coffer Hunt. Remember that new spot of hatred and loathing I told you to make in your heart for a new enemy? Well, You'll meet em here. ALOT of em. Welcome to the absolute ***** That is hunting for our Coffer. Due to the fact that the Castle Oztroja Treasure coffers drop Astral Rings, and due to the fact that these very rings sell for 250k+ on the Ifrit server, Thieves are, for the most party, absolutley MERCILESS to your pleas of asking for help in finding your coffer.
You will run into your gamut of either Gil Sellers hunting for the coffers, or just plain out absolute JACK*** Thf who could frankly, give a rat's behind about your plight.
However....
That being said, as with all things, not all Thf Are bad. Special thanks go to Blosm, and Syron on the Ifrit server for helping me to try and find my coffer. They were both extremley polite and very kind to me, and I greatley appreciate that. Props to both of you.
Now then, Coffer spawn locations:
[Note: Coffer spawn point locations begin AFTER you open the door with the Combination lock. Note that this combination changes every vanadiel day. So you have to guesswork it to open it]
Second Floor, behind brass door locked by combination lock: F-8 F-9 G-8 H-9 (In the middle of the Pool with the leeches. These aggro by sound as I mentioned. This one all depends on how desperate you are. Bring Silent Oils just in case, and make sure to Sneak, then Invis. Make sure the Yagudo in the room don't see you when you pop visible doing this) I-10
Third Floor: H-9 G-7 H-8 H-7 (Behind the Brass door. This one spawns behind the statue used for Limit Break 3)
So I hear you asking...how did your find your coffer?
Well...put simply....I haunted the halls of Castle Oztroja for 3 days. Yes, it took me that long. I had almost run out of 1 stack of Tonko and was camping the coffer pop in the room behind the brass door when a bunch of people shouted for me to open it for LB3. So I did. THey all came through and stared at me, wondering what I was doing there. So I informed them I was hunting for my AF coffer. Then one of them sends me a tell. Apparently there was a coffer near the door with the four levers that are a combination lock to open the door to the 2nd floor. He told me last they saw it, it was still there with a Dead THF not far from it.
Excited, I headed towards the door, hit the handle to open it, immeaditley invised, and Rushed down to that very Spot. Sure enough...there was my Coffer. No other Thf in sight save Skylim, the Gil Seller, who was dead not 15 feet from it. There were two Yagudo nearby as well. Note I have a very special dislike For Skylim because I got examined alot by said thf, and also my polite asking for help was blantantly ignored. ( Which is to be expected from a Gil Seller when it comes to Oztroja Coffers. Note that I have had OTHER thf inform me that Skylim is said Gilseller, and Frankly, due to seeing that toon day in and day out nonstop, I don't doubt them. )
When the Yagudo's Turned their back, I immeaditley dropped Invis and Spammed the absolute heck out of My Coffer key Macro. The Macro Targeted the Coffer and popped it open, and I was greeted by the wonderful message " Brianna Obtains a Chaos Cuirass "
At that VERY second I hear the Yagudo's Aggro me instantly. I had JUST popped the coffer in the nick of time and gotten the message and attained the item. I should note if something aggros and hits you, the coffer will not open if your open treasure animation is disrupted. So Be cautious about this.
So, Hands shaking and very nervous, but excited beyond belief, I rush out of Oztroja, Aggroing practically the ENTIRE damn castle with me. Heading through the halls, I hit my equipment Screen and Unequipped my Twin Sniper rings to boost my Def, and then prayed. Rushing out, I bolted headlong through the various halls until I got to the door with the trap door that leads up to the 2nd Floor. Imagine the poor Soul's eyes when they opened that door and I didn't have to, and the TRAIN FROM HELL Emerged after me. Rushing for Zone, I made it...Finally.
I had such an absolute thrill of Elation going through me it is beyond description. Not only did I pop the coffer in front of a Gil Seller's Dead Glazed over Corpse like eyes, But I also aggroed practically the entire fricking castle And LIVED. With 323 Hp To boot. I still remember typing in LS Chat. " I may die!!! But Demmit Ima die HAPPY! "
It will be a memory I will carry with me for the rest of my years as a gamer. :)
Your hunt for the Oztroja Coffer will be painful. That I will tell you right now. Your best bet is to camp the spot behind the Brass door where the statue is on the Third Floor for LB3. The coffer pops behind it. Have a Coffer key Macro ready.
An example of this would be as follows
/targetnpc <t> /item "Ozt. Coffer Key" <t>
I BELIEVE that macro is correct. You will know whether or not it is correct by targeting a far away mob or item and hitting the macro. You should receive an error about the target being out of range if the Macro is done correctly.
I should note something here. Before the Angry mob of Dagger and Torch Wielding Thf come to burn me at the stake about this very issue. Not all THF are bad. Go ahead and ask some of them for help. Use the translator like I did. (Please) (Help Me Out!) (Dark Knight) (Artifact) (Treasure).
Some of them WILL go out of their way to assist you in finding the coffer. Some of them will not. It just all depends. I will however tell you this. A Thf will be 100% more likley to assist you if they see you actively hunting for the coffer instead of just camping one spot. It means to them that you REALLY want this armor. Some will have you camp the room in the back behind the brass door while they search. Pretty much your best bet is to try and get help to find it, or camp that one spot and just be patient.
That's it Folks. That is all of the AF. I hope you all have found this Useful. Note that there may be some errors dealing with this as I had to pull a great deal of this from memory. :(
I hope everyone finds this useful. Please correct me if there are any errors. The one I am most concerned about is the possibility of AF3's ??? Location being incorrect.
Have Fun always Folks, I hope this proves useful. :)

Being a DRK isn't just about dealing damage, having the best and greatest weapon and armour. It's more about being prepared for the upcoming battles in your future. Personally, I've seen to many cases where people take foods/drinks for granted and just don't use them at all, and hope this will help some future or present DRK's.
If you see something that should be added, please feel free to comment. I'd like to keep this list updated, for future use.
Thanks and enjoy. (Rate up if you find this helpful!) ^^;
Food(s)
Roast Pipira Stackable: 12 Duration: 30 min. Status Effects: DEX:+3 MND:-1 Attack:+15% Recipe(1)**: Cooking(21) Fire + Pipira + Rock Salt Notes: When I'm in a pinch for gil and still want to be able to feel like a contributing member in a party I use these. I also found these quite helpful when first leveling my DRK.
Broiled Pipira (HQ version of Roast Pipira) Stackable: Does not Stack Duration: 60 min. Status Effects: DEX: 3 Attack:+15% Recipe(1)**: Cooking(21) Fire + Pipira + Rock Salt Notes: Pretty much like the Roasted Pipira but without the penalty to MND and lasts 30 min longer.
Dhalmel Steak Stackable: Does not Stack Duration: 60 min. Status Effects: STR:+4 INT:-1 Attack:+18% Recipe(1)**: Cooking(29) Fire + Black Pepper + Dhalmel Meat + Olive Oil Notes: Just an alternative in case you can't get ahold of more desirable foods.
Jack-o'-Lantern Stackable: Does not Stack Duration: 60 min. Status Effects: CHR:-10 Vs.Dark:+25 Accuracy:+10 Evasion:+10 +Arcana Killer Recipe(1)**: Cooking(36) Fire + Beeswax + Ogre Pumpkin Notes: This is an often overlooked food item for DRK's. I generally use these when doing BCNM battles, fighting NM's, missions, and quests. The duration is nice, however the down fall of this item is it's not stackable, sometimes hard to find, on Fenrir one sells for about 2k in the AH. Since the Halloween event has been going on, one of the treats you get from the NPC's is a Jack-o'-Lantern, I've been getting these left and right to store in my Mog House for later use. ^^
Meat Mithkabob Stackable: 12 Duration: 30 min. Status Effects: STR:+5 VIT:-1 AGI:+2 INT:-1 Attack:+22% Recipe(1)**: Cooking(38) Fire + Cockatrice Meat + Kazham Pepper + Mhaura Garlic + Wild Onion Notes: These you can find everywhere, easy to make, stackable, and generally the most common used food for DRK.
Meat Chiefkabob (HQ version of Meat Mithkabob) Stackable: 12 Duration: 60 min*. Status Effects: STR:+5 VIT:-1 AGI:+2 INT:+1 CHR:+1 Attack:+26% Recipe(1)**: Cooking(38) Fire + Cockatrice Meat + Kazham Pepper + Mhaura Garlic + Wild Onion Notes: If you can afford spending a little extra gil, then get a stack of these. Now, personally recommend you have a stack of these and a stack of Meat Mithkabobs, based on your damage out put and the capability of your tank you should be able to gauge which to use.
Bison Steak Stackable: Does not Stack Duration: 30 min. Status Effects: STR: 6 DEX: 3 INT: -3 Recipe(1)**: Cooking(65) Fire + Bay Leaves + Black Pepper + Buffalo Meat + Olive Oil + Rarab Tail + Rock Salt Notes: If you want an added boost of STR these are fun. Although, the kabobs generally give the same/near stat as this item, and some additional ones, I really wouldn't recommend using them unless you just happen to have them or can get a great deal on them.
Squid Sushi*** Stackable: 12 Duration: 30 min. Status Effects: HP+30, AGI+5, MND-1, Accuracy+14 Recipe(6)**: Cooking (70 + Raw Fish Handling) Earth + Tarutaru Rice + Rice Vinegar + Gigant Squid + Distilled Water + Ground Wasabi Notes: Unknown haven't used them yet. T_T
Rarab Meatball Stackable: Does not Stack Duration: 30 min. Status Effects: HP:+8 MP:+8 STR:+2 INT:-1 Attack:+10% Recipe(1)**: Cooking(76) Fire + Bird Egg + Black Pepper + Distilled Water + Hare Meat + Mhaura Garlic + Rock Salt + San d'Orian Flour + Stone Cheese Notes: Just an alternative, if something more sutable isn't available.
Tuna Sushi*** Stackable: 12 Duration: 30 min. Status Effects: HP+20, CHR+5, Attack-4.1%, Accuracy+14 Recipe(4)**: Cooking (77 + Raw Fish Handling) Earth + Tarutaru Rice + Rice Vinegar + Gugru Tuna + Distilled Water + Ground Wasabi Notes: Unknown haven't used them yet. T_T
Sole Sushi*** Stackable: 12 Duration: 30 min. Status Effects: HP+20, DEX+1, MND-1, Accuracy:+14 Recipe(2)**: Cooking (84 + Raw Fish Handling) Earth + Tarutaru Rice + Rice Vinegar + Black Sole + Distilled Water + Ground Wasabi Notes: Unknown haven't used them yet. T_T
Drink(s)
Orange Juice Stackable: Does not Stack Duration: 1 min. Status Effects: MP Regeneration over Time: 30 Recipe(1)**: Cooking(10) Water + Saruta Orange(4) Notes: This is nice to drinking during a battle, since we aren't high on the RDM's refresh list, we have to make sure we keep up our MP if the party is chaining mobs. Healing during a time like this could hurt your TP and to add to a skill chain. Recommend use at low-level range.
Apple Juice Stackable: Does not Stack Duration: 2 min. Status Effects: MP Regeneration over Time: 45 Recipe(1)**: Cooking(20) Water + Faerie Apple(4) Notes: Pretty much like Orange Juice just cost a bit more to buy. At low/mid-level range I recommend using these, since your MP pool will have increased and so have the cost of your spells.
Pineapple Juice Stackable: Does not Stack Duration: 4 min. Status Effects: MP Regeneration over Time: 80 Recipe(1)**: Cooking(30) Water + Kazham Pineapple(2) Notes: Just like Apple and Orange Juice, just more MP over a period of time.
Melon Juice Stackable: Does not Stack Duration: 2 min. Status Effects: MP Regeneration over Time: 90 Recipe(1)**: Cooking(40) Water + Thundermelon + Watermelon Notes: Just another alternative to look at for helping you recover you MP. ^^
Yagudo Drink Stackable: Does not Stack Duration: 3 min. Status Effects: MP Regeneration over Time: 120 Recipe(1)**: Cooking(60) Dark + Buburimu Grape(3) + Yagudo Cherry Notes: This could be quite costly, so I don't go drinking these as fast as you can. I recommend using these when needed. Generally, I would just carry 2 on me at a time.
